Project Overview
In Antananarivo, Madagascar, a solar energy developer aimed to deploy distributed photovoltaic systems to address chronic power shortages—locals face 4 to 8 hours of daily blackouts. However, the client had no prior experience in solar-integrated distribution design, leading to initial over-engineering and misaligned equipment selection. Additional constraints included strict cost targets, compliance with local utility standards, and the need for equipment resilient to high temperature, humidity, and salt-laden air.
Key project requirements included:
Simplified, turnkey solution replacing complex switchgear with integrated substations
Full technical support from design and drawings to commissioning and training
Cost-effective configuration without compromising reliability or compliance
Robust protection against tropical coastal conditions
TSTY Electric’s Customized Solution
Following an on-site assessment, TSTY proposed replacing the client’s original high-voltage switchgear plan with 300 customized pad-mounted substations—optimized for solar integration, local standards, and environmental durability. The solution eliminated redundant components, selected IEC-compliant yet cost-efficient core parts, and incorporated climate-specific enhancements. TSTY also delivered end-to-end services: engineering, production, logistics, installation supervision, operator training, and local after-sales coordination.
Core Technical Adaptations
Replaced HV switchgear with optimized prefabricated substations for lower cost and faster deployment
Selected IEC-compliant, high-value components aligned with Malagasy grid requirements
Enhanced corrosion resistance and passive cooling for high heat, humidity, and salt exposure
Simplified internal layout by removing non-essential functions to improve reliability and reduce cost

Engineered for Africa, Validated Globally
When clients lack technical capacity but face urgent energy needs, success depends on more than hardware—it requires partnership, simplification, and local relevance.
From Over-Design to Right-Sizing
By shifting from discrete switchgear to integrated substations, the project achieved ~22% cost savings while improving system reliability and reducing installation complexity.
Built for Madagascar’s Climate
Galvanized enclosures, sealed cable entries, and enhanced ventilation ensured long-term performance despite year-round high humidity and coastal salt spray.
End-to-End Ownership
TSTY provided complete project support—from single-line diagrams and civil foundation advice to on-site training—enabling the client to operate independently post-handover.
Scalable, Standardized Deployment
With 300 units deployed across multiple sites using modular designs, the solution supports future expansion. TSTY’s ability to combine affordability, compliance, and full-cycle service made it the trusted partner for this national-scale renewable initiative.
