Project Overview
For a new power plant on Oriental Mindoro Island (Mimaropa Region), the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) required custom oil-immersed transformers to support auxiliary and step-down functions. The design featured unusually high low-voltage currents and complex busbar interconnections, demanding specialized terminal arrangements. Compounding the challenge, the tropical climate—characterized by sustained high temperatures and >80% relative humidity—required enhanced moisture protection. Critically, the project timeline allowed only seven weeks from final drawing approval in early April to full delivery by end of May.
Key project requirements included
Custom low-voltage buswork to handle high current and intricate wiring layouts
Enhanced protection against heat and humidity for long-term reliability
Accelerated manufacturing and logistics to meet a non-extendable grid commissioning date
Full compliance with Philippine utility standards and IEC norms
TSTY Electric’s Customized Solution
TSTY delivered two custom oil-immersed power transformers (10 MVA and 12.5 MVA) with extended copper busbars and reinforced LV connection terminals to accommodate high-current, multi-circuit configurations. All units were tropicalized with sealed gaskets, anti-condensation heaters, and corrosion-resistant finishes. To meet the aggressive schedule, TSTY activated an expedited production lane—compressing design, fabrication, and testing into under 6 weeks—while coordinating direct sea freight to Mindoro.
Core Technical Adaptations
Custom LV busbar and extended copper terminals for high-current complex wiring
Tropicalized design with anti-humidity sealing and corrosion-resistant components
Expedited production and logistics to deliver within 7-week critical window
Integrated switchgear package: SF6 breakers, disconnectors, CTs, and surge arresters
• Pre-coordinated with transformer ratings • Humidity-sealed enclosures
*All units passed third-party type testing per regional requirements prior to shipment.
Engineered for Southeast Asia, Validated Globally
In island-grid projects where time, climate, and electrical complexity converge, success hinges on precision customization and execution speed.
Precision Buswork for High-Current Demands
The custom LV terminal layout eliminated field modifications, ensuring safe, low-impedance connections for high-current auxiliary loads.
Built for the Tropics, Tested for Reliability
Sealed cable entries, anti-condensation systems, and marine-grade coatings protect core components from persistent heat and humidity.
From Approval to Delivery in 6 Weeks
By prioritizing the order through a dedicated fast-track production line, TSTY met NGCP’s immovable deadline without compromising quality.
